All Sounds Are Samples

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

According to Iskur’s Samples Database, Burial sampled a few lines from Beyonce’s track, “Resentment.” I then looked a few lines up the samples list to find that Beyonce used Curtis Mayfield’s track, “Think (Instrumental)” to create Resentment. It’s odd how sampling works, especially in Burial’s case, since he only took a few minor words and made them sound completely the opposite of what they were.

“The peak of our civilization !!! The peak of our civilization and 90 percent of us think all we have is fucking “The OC” on TV and get to vote for lowly politicians. But guess what ITS NOT TRUE!!!! WE HAVE LOUD MUSIC IN THE DESERT!!!! WE HAVE GOOD NEW FRIENDS!!! we have hilarious jokes and good dope, fresh air in the new sunrise, hands in the air rejoice, we are together for a few hours, children of the beat, the few the proud, we the people who can laugh from our hearts.”

From Rithma’s blog. He’s been through a lot.

It was about three years ago that I heard a song on a radio show called Thump Radio, at around 12pm. It was a live latin-groove mix with Julius Papp. Three years later, two weeks back, I was listening to another mix and I heard the track again. Looked it up, got it.

I highly recommend you listen to the Original MAW mix.

Get the single at Amazon. Cheap cheap!
