Installation & configuration under Ubuntu 8.10 using the Internet
1. Download & Install HPLIP driver
2. Open HPLIP Toolbox from System -> Preferences -> HPLIP Toolbox
3. Select "Setup Device..." and follow the on-screen instructions to setup your device
Installation & configuration under Ubuntu 8.10 using the included ThinkPenguin driver CD
1. Insert the ThinkPenguin disc labeled "HP Officejet 6300 series" for "Ubuntu 8.10"
2. When the CD is inserted you will be prompted about installing unofficial packages- select 'start package manager' to continue
3. If you are displayed a message regarding the quick introduction to synaptic click close
4. In the Quick search box enter hplip
5. To mark the driver for installation click on the hplip-gui box
6. Click apply to start the installation
7. When prompted to apply the following changes click Apply
8. After the installation has completed you will informed of success, click close to continue
9. Close the synaptic package manager
10. From System -> Preferences click on HPLIP Toolbox to setup the printer
11. The first time you run HPLIP Toolbox you will be warned that no HP devices have been found, select Setup device... to detect and configure a newly connected device
12. You will be asked to enter your password to perform administrative tasks, enter your password and click ok
13. Follow the on-screen Printer Setup Wizard to complete configuration of your new device
