GraphThing is a tool that allows you to create, manipulate and study graphs. These "graphs" are mathematical objects (look at this introduction to Graph Theory) that describe relationships between sets; they are not 2D plots, charts, or anything similar to that. GPeriodic is a program for looking up data of elements from the periodic table. It allows you to browse through a periodic table of chemical elements, and view somewhat detailed information on each of the elements. 118 elements are currently listed.

GNU Paint is a simple, easy-to-use paint program.

It features:

* Drawing tools--ovals, freehand, polygon, text
* Cut and paste by selecting irregular regions or polygons.
* Print support using gnome-print (still flaky, will be improved upon next release)
* Modern, ease-to-use user interface with tool and color palettes

Gnucash can track finances in multiple accounts, keeping running and reconciled balances. It has an simple to use graphical user interface, double entry, a hierarchy of accounts, expense accounts (categories), and can import Quicken QIF files and OFX files.

gbrainy is a brain teaser game and trainer to have fun and to keep your brain trained.

It provides the following types of games:

* Logic puzzles. Games designed to challenge your reasoning and thinking skills.
* Mental calculation. Games based on arithmetical operations designed to prove your mental calculation skills.

Maxima is a complete computer algebra system based on a 1982 version of Macsyma. It is written in Common Lisp and runs on all POSIX platforms such as Mac OS X, Unix, BSD, and Linux as well as under Microsoft Windows. It is free software released under the terms of the GNU General Public License.

JabRef is an open source bibliography reference manager. The native file format used by JabRef is BibTeX, the standard LaTeX bibliography format. JabRef runs on the Java VM (version 1.5 or newer), and should work equally well on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.

3D surface plot Genius is a general purpose calculator program. It is useful both as a simple calculator and as a research or educational tool. The syntax is very intuitive and is designed to mimic how mathematics is usually written. GEL is the name of its extension language, it stands for Genius Extension Language. Interestingly, many of the standard genius functions are written in GEL itself.

GCompris is an educational software suite comprising of numerous activities for children aged 2 to 10. Some of the activities are game orientated, but nonetheless still educational. Below you can find a list of categories with some of the activities available in that category.
