Burning DVD / CD / Blu-ray Discs on GNU/Linux Frequently Asked Questions

GNU/Linux DVD / CD / Blu-ray burning frequently asked questions. This FAQ pertains primarily to errors you may encounter.

Getting errors while burning ISOs that don't seem to cause a problem? Here is the reason why:

If your seeing an error after the burn process has largely finished there the reason may be the application selected to burn the image. K3b is a front end for a set of applications that do the actual burning in GNU/Linux. One of them is growisofs and another is cdrecord.

If your seeing a write error and then clicking the show debugging output button and finding an error like this at the bottom of the log:

"-[ WRITE@LBA=5cb00h failed with SK=Bh/NO ADDITIONAL SENSE INFORMATION]: Input/output error"

Try switching the Writing app from auto to cdrecord.

K3b is also just one front ends for burning ISOs/discs. Another work around is to use another front end like Brasero or Xfburn.
