If you have purchased a travel router configured TPE-R1300 with a 4G modem and PenguinVPN service you can follow these instructions to setup the product.
1. Screw on the antennas
2. Connect the ethernet cable from your computer to the LAN port on the mini router
3. Plug the power cable in, the router will boot up on its own (there is no on/off button)
4. By default nothing is setup to auto-connect (neither wireless nor 4G)
5. To connect to the cellular provider connect the USB 4G modem
Note: If your not using AT&T you may need to log into the router at https://192.168.4.1 using the password 'none' without the quotes, then go to Network > Interfaces and click the edit button for the wwan0 interface. In here you can enter the APN for your cellular provider.
6. The modem will be automatically initialized upon connection of the USB 4G modem to the USB-A port on the router assuming the APN has been entered, and upon successfully connecting the VPN will be automatically brought up.
7. To connect to an access point at a hotel (including if it has a captive portal) or similar go to Network > Wireless
8. Click the Scan button
9. Click the Join Network for the access point you want to connect to
10. If the network requires a password to connect enter the password in the WPA passphrase box
11. Click the Submit button
12. Click the Save button
13. Click the Save & Apply button
14. Go to Network > Interfaces and click the restart button for the wwan interface
After 20-30 seconds you should see an IP address and if you go back to Network > Wireless you should see a connection under Associated Stations
If your connecting to an access point with a captive portal (where you get redirected to a web page and have to click an 'I agree' button or similar) you have up to 3 minutes to open a web browser and access the internet outside of the VPN being connected. Once the router has full internet access it'll automatically connect to the VPN unless the 3 minute time out occurs. At which point the wireless connection will be brought down for security reasons.
To verify that a VPN connection has been automatically established after connecting to the wifi go to Status > WireGuard
You should see a date/time under where it says Latest Handshake
Note: You may need to go to Network > Wireless and click restart for radio0 and then go to Network > Interfaces and click restart for the wwan interface if switching between a 4G connection and a wireless connection.
