While many companies offer “Linux laptops and desktops” today no one else goes through the rigorous process of designing systems for GNU/Linux like we do. In fact many don't even understand what it takes to design a quality GNU/Linux system.
So what does it take? It is actually pretty straight forward for even a non-technical user to understand. It takes designing systems with free software in mind. We pick out hardware components that aren't tied to proprietary drivers or firmware; the software that lets you talk to the hardware.
You see we firmly believe that you have the right to control your computer and when proprietary drivers and firmware are used technical users like us can't contribute to fixing the bugs that invariably crop up. When that happens we all suffer. You loose support for hardware, malware becomes rampant, and hardware is often lacking or poorly functioning. Worse yet the companies that you have paid money to will often spy on you.
Fortunately it doesn't have to be that way if you choose not to support these companies selling defective merchandise. We spend the time and energy to support the end user, free software, and make sure you have a flawless user experience. We make a point to avoid selling products with non-free components- our USB wireless, printers, and other devices listed are all free software friendly.
Help us get the word out and check out the free software foundation for more information about users' freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve software: http://www.fsf.org/about/what-is-free-software.
If you find a mistake please let us know. Also please be aware while we support Ubuntu the distribution can't be classified as an entirely free. Most distributions include binary blobs as the kernel "Linux" includes them. Binary blobs are required for many wifi adapters, printers, and other devices. We make every effort to vet our inventory of products that require non-free drivers and firmware. All the products we sell should work with entirely free distributions such as GNewSense. If you find anything that doesn't please let us know and we will provide a full refund; including return shipping upon receipt and reasonable cost.
