USB 3.1 Type-C to 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet Network Adapter (TPE-1000NET4)

USB 3.1 Type-C to 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet Network Adapter (TPE-1000NET4)
While many adapters on the market contain the same or similar components underneath they're often not actually as similar as many tech aficionados believe. Often getting a hold of what you really want can actually be quite the challenge if it's even possible at all. Even when you have a detailed understanding of the tech landscape, know what chipsets exist, and so forth challenges often arise. Some adapters are of poor quality, some utilize different chipsets even where the physical appearance is the same/similar, some only provide half the advertised speed due to bus limitations (USB 2.0 "gigabit" adapters), some have the same core chipset, but aren't supported by the Linux kernel. This can be due to a deviation from reference designs or shipping with new or unique device IDs. Some adapters include proprietary software components that can create havoc for users on GNU/Linux or with future editions of even supported operating systems. Just because something appears to work doesn't mean it'll work down the road either.

One of the key things we do is figure out exactly where the problems are with each new generation of tech and work toward resolving these and other usability problems. Sometimes it's via sourcing, sometimes it's via stocking, and sometimes it even involves working with component companies upstream such as getting a complete set of code released so a new product can be properly supported. The latest generation of USB Type-C ethernet adapters have come with a new set of problems and thus we've chosen to stick with a more traditional and reliable chip in our latest generation of USB gigabit network adapter. A chip that isn't so widely available any more. Besides the distributions and releases that are supported out of the box the other major change with this new adapter is it has a USB Type-C connector. The is of great benefit to those who don't have a traditional USB Type-A port, or maybe don't have a USB Type-A port on the "right" side of their computer as to be most convenient.

  • Experience video streaming and Internet calls with speeds up to 1000Mbps

  • Works everywhere: No dependencies on NDISWrapper, binary blobs, or proprietary drivers/OS-loaded firmware

  • Support for most popular and libre (free) distributions

  • Curious how our gigabit adapter compares to other products? Check out this real world speed test (this adapter isn't demonstrated, but the other Type-A gigabit adapter should have similar results).
