These instructions are how to setup a libreCMC router with OpenVPN using our PenguinVPN 2.0 service. The following archived configuration has been vetted on libreCMC 6.9 on a TPE-R1300 wireless router, but should work for any libreCMC 6.x release. Please contact support if you need updated instructions or additional confirmation about support on other router models.
Note: This archived configuration/these instructions include protection against TunnelVision / DHCP 121 attacks.
0. The router should be in its default configuration running the OEM version before applying these instructions (once logged into the router go to System > Backup / Flash Firmware and click the Perform reset button)
1. Download our PenguinVPN 2.0 OpenVPN router configuration: PenguinVPN-2-OpenVPN-TPE-R1200-R1300-v6x-Router-Configuration.tar.gz
2. Open email and locate the PenguinVPN 2.0 OpenVPN Credentials email and download the PenguinVPN-2-OpenVPN-Keys.tar.gz file
3. Create a directory in your home folder called PenguinVPN
4. Extract the PenguinVPN-2-OpenVPN-TPE-R1200-R1300-v6x-Router-Configuration.tar.gz files to the PenguinVPN folder
5. Extract the PenguinVPN-2-OpenVPN-Keys.tar.gz file to the PenguinVPN/etc/openvpn folder
6. Go back to the main PenguinVPN folder and right click on the etc folder; select the Compress option; make sure you select tar.gz from the drop down too;
7. Click the Create button
8. Rename it to archived-configuration.tar.gz
9: Connect any antennas, plugt the USB power cable into the router, and the other end into a USB port or USB power adapter, connect an ethernet cable from your computer to the router's LAN port
10: Open a browser and enter https://192.168.10.1/ into the address bar
11: Accept any security exception/warning (For Firefox click the Advanced button and the Proceed to button), then click the Log in button for the luci login page that appears
12: Go to System > Backup / Flash Firmware
13: Click the Upload archive... button under the Restore section
14: Click the Browse... button and locate your archived-configuration.tar.gz file
15: Click the Open button, then the Upload button
16: When the open Apply backup? screen appears click the Continue button
17: The router will reboot; take this opertunity to connect a cable to the WAN port and the other end to an upstream router with internet or modem (the router needs 60 seconds or so to boot up); then continue to next step
18: On the PC dissconnect and reconnect from the network
19: Open up a web browser and visit infosniper.net and verify that the the site thinks your coming from a different country than you are actually in
The default password after uploading this configuration for the router login is the word none. The default password to connect to the LibreCMC-VPN SSID is the word librecmc.
