How to configure a TPE-R1300 / TPE-R1200 router for use with a TPE-USB4G2US modem

New shorter set of directions for configuring a TPE-R1300 or TPE-R1200 router for use with a ThinkPenguin TPE-USB4G2US modem. These directions have been vetted with a TPE-R1300 router, libreCMC 6.4, and a TPE-USB4G2US modem using an AT&T activated SIM card and an APN of broadband.

1. Download the 4G configuration

2. Download the libreCMC OEM 6.4 or newer image

3. Connect an ethernet cable between the LAN port on the TPE-R1300 / TPE-R1200 router and your computer

4. Insert an activated SIM card in the USB 4G modem and connect it to the USB-A port on the router

5. Update to libreCMC 6.4 (requires OEM version) or newer firmware (required, else additional packages will need to be installed manually first)

6. Login at https://192.168.10.1, accept any security warnings, default user name is root, and there is no default password, so just click the Log in button

7. Go to System > Backup / Flash Firmware

8. Click the Upload archive... button

9. Click the Browse button and find the 4G configuration previously downloaded, click the Open button

10. Click the Upload button

11. Click the Continue button to Apply Backup

The router will reboot...

Give it a minute and then go to your network applet and disconnect from the router, and then reconnect, the router will issue you a new IP address in the new IP range of our new configuration

The router will now have an IP of 192.168.8.1 and your computer 192.168.8.x where x is some number between 2 and 255

12. Open a web browser and go to https://192.168.8.1, accept any security warnings

13. To login the default password is now the word 'none' without the quotes, hit the Log in button to log in

14. Go to Network > Interfaces

15. Click the Edit button next to WWAN0

16. Select your 4G modem from the drop down if need be

17. Enter the APN for your cellular provider in the APN box

18. Click the Save button, then the Save & Apply button

19. Go to System > Reboot and click the Perform reboot button

Give the router a minute to reboot

20. Open a website like infosniper.net and check if your connected via your cellular provider. For example it'll say AT&T if your connecting via AT&T.

You can access the wireless using the libreCMC access point and the default password 'librecmc' without the quotes.

It's advisable to go to System > Administration and set a new password for the router, enter a new password, write it down if need be, and click the Save button

It's also advisable to change the password for the acess point, to do that go to Network > Wireless and click the Edit button next to libreCMC, then click on the Wireless Security tab, and in the key box enter a new password for the access point, then click the Save button, and then the Save & Apply button

Note: We have directions for end-users that receive this configuration. The directions below are for configuring the router, not those who have received a router with a 4G modem already configured for use.
